About Me

I have always had two passions: Writing, and Photography. I was lucky enough to have indulgent parents, who bought me pens and notebooks and cameras and film - and I went through a lot as a child. Most of it will never see the light of day. My first camera was a Barbie Camera - shot in 110 film. You will not be seeing any of those photos here.

As a teenager, my Dad gave me his old Olympus film SLR. I felt it was a great honor - the camera was seven years older than I was! I loved the control; I loved the weight and feel of the camera in my hands. I would go for walks and take pictures of anything that caught my eye - dog prints laid down when the sidewalk was new, or the way the sunset looked through the trees.

After I reached adulthood, I switched to digital, though on occasion I will still pick up that Olympus. First I had a Polaroid, then a Vivitar, Nikon, and then I tried Canon, and fell in love. I'm on my second Canon, a Rebel DSLR, and I am still experimenting, still learning; but if I have my way, I will never stop learning.

I still enjoy the solitude of walking around different neighborhoods with my camera and taking photos of the flowers and other plants I see along the way. I love bright colors, and love the challenge of capturing the vividness of the beauty around me. My flower photos are some of the photos I am most proud of, and a few have even won Blue Ribbons at a local fair!

My favorite subjects to photograph (as you may have already seen) are my nieces and nephews, pets, and friends and family.  I am extremely proud of my brother, who is in the Army Reserves, and the strides he has taken to get where he is in life -- though he is younger, I look up to him (in more ways than one!) I also enjoy taking photos at family gatherings and such, so much so that I have earned the nickname "Flash" in my family. And more recently, I have started taking photos for other people's families -- weddings, anniversaries, senior portraits, birthday portraits. And I would love to be invited to take photos at your next big family moment!

And, take a look at the fabulous photo shoot my step-mother Tracy A. Shaw took for me to celebrate my graduation from college!
